About Me

I have been working freelance since August 2008, and work both agency side and from home. I am available to work in house across East Anglia and London and can work from home for agencies and clients further afield.

With design experience spanning Digital and Graphic Design, I am confident in producing high quality design work whatever the brief may be, on my own or as part of a creative team. I am however, happiest, and put to best use, on chunky digital campaigns or on crazy creative pitches, where I can be as innovative as I like!

Experience

Head of Design: Affinity New Media
Feb 2007- July 2008
Initially employed as a Senior Designer in a purely creative role, I was promoted to Head of Design after the first 3 months. Leading creative pitches I was able to win a catalogue of regional and national clients and played an integral role in raising the standards of the agency across the areas of design and build. Affinity was first named as a NMA (New Media Age) Top 100 agency in July 2007, and placed in the top 30 UK agencies for design and build. Two projects were reviewed in the NMA magazine and received 2 out of 4 nominations for website design at the Creative East Awards. Being responsible for the design output of the agency, training junior members of the team and scheduling the agencies design work through initial visuals & production, encroached heavily on my creative time. Which eventually led me to seek out purely creative roles in a freelance capacity.

Designer: ZoomZoom
March 2005 – Feb 2007
Creative designer for websites and online marketing materials. Although I had previous experience of designing for the web, this role exposed me to content management systems and internet marketing theories. I was so fascinated with click through rates and ROI tracking that I spent six months within the marketing department learning aspects of Pay Per Click and Affiliate Marketing whilst learning HTML, CSS and reading up on SEO outside work. I now see this role as invaluable in shaping my design work and widening my knowledge base.

Print & Packaging Designer
August 2003 - March 2005
Straight out of University I found work in print and packaging design agencies where I worked in both creative and artworking roles. I was involved in creative pitches at an early stage that involved re-branding and packaging for national brands and artworking packaging for major high street retailers.

Software

I have always taken the view that design applications are there to excute your ideas and not the core of what design is about. However, if you're wondering if I can pick up and run with a project in a certain application I am confident in using the following software programs:

Photoshop
Fireworks
Illustrator
Freehand
Indesign
Dreamweaver, HTML & CSS hand coding
Quark-xpress (although I may be a little rusty on this one!)
Mircosoft Office / Open Office

Mac OR PC - I don't mind so long as it works!
I also come with my own laptop for those who just have desk space to offer.

All designs and concept work above was designed whilst employed at Affinity New Media.
